What to expect from IT sector? Is the storm over for Adani stocks? Mayuresh Joshi answers
Mayuresh Joshi, Head Equity, Marketsmith India, says valuations of IT stocks may be expensive but they continue holding a few stocks like Coforge, Infosys, Persistent in their global portfolios. Also, within the Adani group, Adani Ports is one stock that investors can keep on the watch list. The IT sector is taking quite a bit of beating today. Infosys is down 3.5%. L&T Tech is down over 3%. HCL Tech, Tech Mahindra have run up quite a bit in the last three to four months, but what is the expectation from hereon on IT? Mayuresh Joshi: Two things are happening here. One, from a results perspective, a large part of the midcap IT basket has performed really well. So, even on a higher base, the expectation in terms of how revenue growth will be in constant currency terms was very stable. The margins were very stable and the commentaries were surprisingly very robust over the next few months and quarters as well.

RCB's IPL captaincy remains uncertain, but Ab de Villiers drops a major hint on potential captain
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) announced their 22-player squad for the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) following this week's auction. However, the team's captaincy remains undecided. While there's no official announcement, speculation points towards Virat Kohli, RCB's former long-term captain, returning to the leadership role. Kohli stepped down after the 2021 season. Former RCB player AB de Villiers hinted at Kohli's potential return on his YouTube channel. “I don't think it has been confirmed yet, but he will be the captain, I think, looking at the squad,” de Villiers said. Other potential captaincy candidates within the squad include Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Krunal Pandya. Kumar has served as interim captain for Sunrisers Hyderabad, while Pandya captains Baroda in domestic cricket. Neither has led a full IPL season.

Kamala Harris deliberately did not want to publicly criticize Joe Biden; here's the reason behind that
US Vice President Kamala Harris eventually faced significant challenges in publicly breaking from US President Joe Biden which was a decision eventually driven by her loyalty to his administration, reported The Hill. Senior adviser Stephanie Cutter explained that Kamala Harris wanted to avoid the negative media narratives that could arise from openly criticizing Joe Biden. According to The Hill, Kamala Harris actually maintained that US Vice Presidents traditionally do not diverge from their Presidents while citing recent historical examples, such as Mike Pence's break with Donald Trump following the Capitol riot. In spite of public perception that she might be a candidate for change, Kamala Harris struggled to articulate specific differences between her policies and those of Joe Biden. The Hill noted that in an interview on ‘The View’, when asked what she would have done differently from Joe Biden, she could not identify any significant change which was the statement that was later exploited by Donald Trump during his campaign rallies.

JDU gets to work early for 2025 assembly polls
Belaganj assembly by-election in Bihar, the JDU has started early preparations for the assembly polls next year. Besides the JDU, the BJP won two seats and Hindustani Awam Morcha retained one seat, making it a clean sweep for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). All four seats fall in the Magadh-Shahabad belt of Bihar where the NDA had not been able to perform well since the 2020 assembly election. Earlier Janata Dal and since 1990, the RJD had been winning the Belaganj seat. JDU candidate Manorma Devi's victory in the by-election marked the first time in 34 years that a party other than the RJD won the seat. «This victory is significant as we have defeated RJD in their stronghold and have gained ground in Magadh and Shahabad region. The vote transfer among the NDA allies has been smooth and it has solidified in people's minds ahead of the assembly polls,» JDU general secretary and state minister Ashok Choudhary told ET.

David Plouffe, who is a key campaign adviser, expressed surprise at the discrepancy while stating that their internal data consistently showed Kamala Harris trailing Donald Trump. According to USA Today, David Plouffe noted that while public polls in late September and early October portrayed a competitive race, the campaign was aware of its challenges, specifically after US President Joe Biden dropped out in the month of July. Elon Musk's social media platform, X (formerly known as Twitter) is experiencing a significant user exodus as many users are migrating to alternatives like Bluesky and Meta's Threads, reported Futurism.
