REC Ltd has signed an agreement with Chenab Valley Power Project Private Limited (CVPPPL) to provide it with a financial assistance of ₹1,869.26 crore as a term loan. The power ministry said the loan will be utilized for development, construction and operation of the greenfield 4 x156 MW Kiru Hydro Electric Project on River Chenab, in Kishtwar district of Jammu & Kashmir.

ITC plans to open more hotels overseas with neighbouring countries and the Middle East as primary target markets after opening of its first international property here, company Chairman and Managing Director Sanjiv Puri said on Thursday. The company's arm ITC Hotels, which had opened 22 new properties in the last 24 months, plans to add another 70 hotels in the next five years in India as part of expansion plans in the hospitality sector. Besides the hotels business, the company will look for opportunities to expand the presence of FMCG and other verticals in new overseas markets as well. «We are open to exploring opportunities that come about. I think we have strong credentials in hospitality which we can take outside India now. Very clearly at the moment the focus is on proximal markets, be it for hospitality, be it for FMCG...,» Puri said here at a press conference after the opening of the 352-room luxury property, ITC Ratnadipa here.

Congress while distancing itself from Sam Pitroda's "inheritance tax" remarks attacked BJP, saying that the latter was trying to sensationalise the comments to divert attention from Prime Minister Narendra Modi's «malicious» poll campaign. Congress spokesperson Jairam Ramesh said Pitroda has been a mentor, friend, philosopher and guide to many across the world, and has made numerous and enduring contributions to India's developments. «Mr Pitroda expresses his opinions freely on issues he feels strongly about. ITC will convene a meeting of the company’s ordinary shareholders on June 6, 2024, to approve the proposed scheme of arrangement involving the demerger of ITC Hotels from ITC Limited into a separate listed subsidiary, the company on Wednesday said in an exchange filing. The meeting will be held at 10:30 am India time through the electronic mode.

Congress leader Sam Pitroda's remarks, the party on Wednesday asserted that it has no plans whatsoever to introduce an inheritance tax and cited former Union minister Jayant Sinha's remarks to allege that it is the Modi government that wanted to do so. Pitroda, the president of the Indian Overseas Congress, has talked about the inheritance tax law in the United States while answering a query on the «redistribution of wealth» issue. Modi on Wednesday attacked the Congress over its Pitroda's «inheritance tax» remark, saying the grand old party's «dangerous intentions» of snatching away the assets and rights of people have come to the fore. In a post on X, Congress general secretary in-charge of communications Jairam Ramesh said the Congress has no plan whatsoever to introduce an inheritance tax. In fact, former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi had abolished Estate Duty in 1985, he said, adding that it is the Modi government that has wanted to do so.

IHG Hotels & Resorts said on Wednesday it will double its presence in India in the next five years to 100 operating hotels. The company said it recorded a 'strong' signing performance in 2023 with 13 deals closed across its brands in the luxury, premium and essentials categories and that it strengthened its footprint in markets such as Gurgaon, Jim Corbett, Mumbai, Amritsar and Goa. The chain said close to 70% of the signings were in the midscale and upper midscale segments, which continues to be a growth driver for the company in India, followed by premium and luxury.

₹7,500 crore for the scheme, a more than 10% increase over the amount spent in the just- concluded financial year. The scheme in its current form gives beneficiaries an insurance coverage of ₹5 lakh person per year on a means-tested basis – to qualify, the individual's annual income must not exceed ₹2.4 lakh. Expanding the coverage of the scheme to include everyone above 70 years of age by removing the income cap could cost the exchequer an additional ₹15,000 crore– ₹20,000 crore a year as per preliminary estimates, said one of the persons quoted above.

The joint venture was announced by Rahul Bhatia, Group Managing Director of InterGlobe and Gurnani, Executive Vice Chairman of AIonOS in the national capital on Tuesday. InterGlobe is a diversified group with focus on travel, transportation, logistics and hospitality. The country's largest airline IndiGo is part of it.
