Finance Commission is open to listening to the views of all states and consider all possibilities, including their grievance on facing a cut in central allocations despite better performance on the economy front, the Commission's Chairman Arvind Panagariya said on Tuesday. Panagariya, who is on a visit to Telangana along with the other members of the Commission as part of the panel's state visits, said it was expected that better-performing states would generally say that (they faced a reduction in central allocations). «That (states which made progress saying their allocations declined) is to be expected. At least so far, what we have seen, in two of the states, Karnataka and Telangana, we have heard that,» the economist told reporters here.

AAP Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha on Sunday said both Congress and his party are trying to forge an alliance for the Haryana elections by keeping aside their individual aspirations. India's foreign exchange reserves jumped by USD 2.299 billion to a new high of USD 683.987 billion for the week ended on August 30.

Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot has demanded that the state and central governments complete work on the Barmery refinery-cum-petrochemical project within the specified time frame. Gehlot said there were reports that 79 per cent of the work was completed by May and, in such a situation, it might take another year to complete the remainder. «The state government should coordinate with the central government, HPCL (Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited) and ensure completion of the refinery work within the stipulated time frame,» he said in a post on X on Saturday.
