View: Get a juggler, talk up POK, just don’t let the voter get bored
speeches in the ongoing election has hit rock bottom. Everyone is calling the other one a thief, a criminal, a bad cook, or a dynast. The names of Gautam Adani and Mukesh Ambani are thrown into every second speech as garnishing. Whether those two billionaires have any political affiliation doesn't matter. They will be brought up regardless. It reminds me of how, in any country, when there is an anti-US demonstration, protesters would throw bricks at KFC outlets. Ambani and Adani are the new KFC for all political parties in this election — even the ones they are supposed to support. You could blame politicians and say they need to improve their intellectual discourse, turn perhaps to the great speeches of Vajpayee, JP, Nehru (oops) and George Fernandes. However, I don't think it is the politicians' fault. They're looking for any trick in the book to entertain crowds. In the age of social media, the public has changed.

Chronicle of a team foretold: Loving RCB is like running into a computer problem again and again
The great saint said this almost 800 years ago. The Bhagavad Gita says one of the ways of reaching the supreme state is through Bhakti Yoga, or the path of devotion. About 61 years ago, the Beatles sang, “All you need is love”. In recent times, if you want to see the real path of love you need to be a fan of the IPL cricket franchise Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). For most part of the last 16 years, since the IPL started, RCB have resembled a UPSC aspirant who makes it to the interview stage but doesn’t get selected.

‘Chandu Champion’ trailer out! Karthik Aaryan shines as a decorated war veteran-turned-wrestler
Karthik Aaryan is virtually unrecognisable as a war veteran turned wrestler, who is willing to do what it takes to succeed against the odds in the trailer of his upcoming sports drama ‘Chandu Champion’. On Saturday, the ‘Bhool Bhulaiyya 2’ star unveiled the trailer of the movie, in his hometown Gwalior. The energetic, fast-paced and engaging trailer takes you through the emotional journey of the titular character across various stages and milestones of his life. The trailers showcases his life as a youth with ambitions of becoming a professional wrestler, joining the military and getting shot in the 1965 war, etc. The poster, which showed the Aaryan in a completely unfamiliar avatar, took fans by shock. In an Instagram post, director Kabir Khan praised Aaryan profusely for his dedication to transform his body without resorting to steroids. The ‘Freddy’ star had gone on a strict diet regimen, shedding his body fat. «The story of Chandu Champion is an incredibly inspiring true story but the journey that Kartik went through to become this champion is no less inspiring. I met him when he had put on weight for a role. He had 39 per cent body fat. I told him that he had to portray an international level multi-disciplinary sportsperson. He just smiled and said 'I will do it Sir'. A year and a half later with no use of steroids — something that he was adamant about — we took this photo on set. Body fat 7 per cent! I'm proud of you Kartik Aaryan,” praised the director.

Arjun Tendulkar's IPL debut marred by Nicholas Pooran's big hits, forcing midway exit
Arjun Tendulkar had to exit the over prematurely after Nicholas Pooran hammered him for consecutive sixes during his debut match in the Indian Premier League 2024 on May 17. Tendulkar, stepping in for the rested Jasprit Bumrah, had a solid start, conceding only ten runs in his initial two overs. However, his second spell posed a challenge as Pooran, in blistering form, dispatched him for massive sixes that soared into the stands at the Wankhede Stadium. Surprisingly, Tendulkar abruptly left the field, grappling with muscle cramps induced by the high-intensity bowling. Consequently, with Tendulkar unable to complete his over (0/22 in 2.2 overs), Naman Dhir was called in to deliver the remaining deliveries of the 15th over. Earlier in his spell, Tendulkar managed to trap Marcus Stoinis leg before wicket in his second over, but the decision was overturned by the third umpire upon review. Despite the bowling change, Pooran's aggression remained unchecked as he greeted Dhir with a colossal six followed by a boundary towards deep extra cover.

IPL fever boosts bar and pub business amid sweltering heatwave
bars, pubs and cafes are capitalising on a surge in interest among fans. The ongoing heatwave means alarge number of cricket enthusiasts are gravitating toward air-conditioned comfort to avoid having to sweat it out in sweltering stadiums, executives said. Bars and pubs said they are rolling out live screenings, trying to replicate a stadium-like atmosphere with curated sports menus, cocktails, beer buckets and staff dressed in IPL jerseys. Some are even providing team apparel and merchandise. To be sure, elections in Mumbai (May 20) and Delhi-Gurgaon (May 25) will mean alcohol-free dry days around those dates in those regions but executives said they expect to make up for that in other states. Besides, folks may be drawn by the group-watching vibe even without the booze, they said.

Man City bids to make history and Jurgen Klopp bids farewell as Premier League heads toward dramatic finale
Manchester City is bidding to make history. Jurgen Klopp is bidding farewell. The English Premier League is heading toward a dramatic and emotional finale on Sunday, with the title race between Man City — seeking an unprecedented fourth straight top-flight championship — and Arsenal going to the wire and taking centre stage on an afternoon when goals and tears usually flow. Many of those tears will likely come at Anfield where Klopp, the eccentric German who has bestrode the league for nearly nine years with his heavy-metal football and big grin, takes charge of his last game at Liverpool. Klopp is definitely leaving. For other managers, the future is more uncertain.
