Latest telco performance data put out by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) on Monday showed that Reliance Jio notched up the highest sequential AGR gain in the quarter ending March, ahead of Bharti Airtel, while loss-making Vodafone Idea(Vi) reported a fall. Jio’s quarterly AGR, or revenue from licensed services, grew 1.7% sequentially to Rs 22,985 crore in the January-March period, while Airtel’s rose 1.15% on-quarter to Rs 18,500 crore.

NEW DELHI : Telecom service providers will pursue resolutions and reforms aimed at reducing sector-related litigation, totalling over ₹76,780 crore, arising from tax disputes and legacy matters, top executives said. Vodafone Idea Ltd chief executive Akshaya Moondra said in an earnings call with investors last week that a structural change was needed to prevent avoidable litigation.

India and the UK along with a free trade agreement will figure prominently during the visit of a high-level team from Britain here, an official said. UK Secretary of State for Business and Trade Kemi Badenoch and Director General for Trade Negotiations at the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) Amanda Brooks are visiting India this week. Besides participating in the G20 Trade and Investment Ministerial Meeting in Jaipur on August 24-25, the UK minister will hold bilateral talks with Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on August 26 here and review the progress of talks on the free trade agreement.

Vodafone Idea may reportedly close its external equity funding by the end of this year. Akshaya Moondra, the chief executive of the cash-strapped telecom during the earning call said the talks for equity funding have picked up momentum and he anticipated that they may see a positive outcome in the coming quarters. The funding is crucial for the telco as it has not posted any profit since the 2018 merger (Vodafone India and Idea Cellular).

Adani Ports: Two promoter entities have raised shareholding in Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd by over 2 per cent. As per the information shared by the company with Indian stock market exchanges two promoter entities Resurgent Trade and Investment Ltd and Emerging Market Investment DDC have acquired fresh stakes in Adani Ports via the open market.

Vodafone Idea expects to finalize agreements to raise external equity and bank-led funding in the upcoming quarter, as discussions with potential investors are advancing towards the due diligence stage, said chief executive Akshaya Moondra. “I think we are making good progress. We expect to conclude the discussions in the coming quarter, as far as equity funding is concerned," he said in response to queries during an earnings call following the June quarter results on Wednesday.

Vodafone Idea (Vi) fell over 3% to Rs 8 in Wednesday's trade on BSE after the telecom operator reported a loss of Rs 7,840 crore for the quarter ended June 2023, which is higher than Rs 7,297 crore reported in the year-ago quarter and Rs 6,419 crore in the preceding March quarter. However, its revenue from operations rose by a marginal 2% to Rs 10,655 crore in the first quarter, compared with Rs 10,410 crore in the same quarter of last year. ARPU for the first quarter came in at Rs 139 as against Rs 135 in the previous quarter, showing a sequential growth of 2.9%.
