Adani Group, has been arrested by Odisha’s Vigilance Directorate for allegedly attempting to bribe an Indian Administrative Officer (IAS). Rambhav Gattu, the Chief Manufacturing Officer (East) of Ambuja Cement in Chhattisgarh, was taken into custody after he attempted to offer Rs 2 lakh in cash to the collector of Bargarh district, Aditya Goyal.
According to the Odisha Vigilance Directorate, the incident took place when Gattu visited the office of Aditya Goyal on Wednesday. Gattu presented the collector with a flower bouquet and a packet of sweets, which Goyal found suspicious. The collector instructed his peon to open the packet, revealing four bundles of 500-rupee notes, totaling Rs 2 lakh (approximately $2,382). «Suspecting the packet, the collector directed his peon to open the packet, in which four bundles of 500 currency notes were found. So, the person was detained, and vigilance authorities were informed,” the Vigilance Directorate said in its statement, as reported by Reuters.
Gattu was immediately detained, and the Vigilance authorities were called to the scene. The Vigilance team later arrested Gattu and seized the cash found in the packet.
A formal case has been registered against Rambhav Gattu under Sections 8, 9, and 10 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, as amended in 2018.
