Barbie movie would have as much craze as Christopher Nolan’s film Oppenheimer. In London for the UK premiere of Barbie, hundreds of fans started queuing up in the wee hours, as early as 3 am local time, to be the first to catch a glimpse of the Barbie stars. Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling are the leading stars of Barbie, a movie that is the sarcastic take on the Mattel doll.
Other cast members include Anne Hathaway, Helen Mirren, Kate McKinnon, Emma Mackey, Ncuti Gatwa, Dua Lipa, America Ferrera, Issa Rae, and Simu Liu, among others. Some say Billie Eilish is also a part of the film. Fans gathered near the pink carpet for celebrities, laid outside London’s Cineworld in Leicester Square, dressed as Barbie or Ken, in clothes similar to the characters or dolls.
The red carpet of the Barbie premiere in the UK opens at 5 pm, which means fans have gathered more than 12 hours ahead of the event on July 12, 2023. This is probably the biggest queue for a premiere in the UK or even Hollywood. A fan tweeted, “If you’re planning on heading to Leicester Square for a Barbie premiere wristband, good luck as I’ve never seen a queue this big this early on a premiere day.” “I’ve worked at an office near Leicester Square for over a decade and the queue for tonight’s Barbie red carpet is the probably the longest premiere line I’ve ever seen,” another Twitter user said.
Film critics who have already seen Barbie claim it is “perfection”. Katcy Stephan of Variety wrote on Twitter: “Barbie is perfection. Greta Gerwig delivers a nuanced commentary on what it means to be a woman,” adding that the movie is “a whimsical, wonderful, and laugh-out-loud funny romp.
