Digantara, a Bengaluru-headquartered company specialising in space surveillance and intelligence, will invest $10-15 million over the next six-eight months to set up a dedicated facility for spacecraft manufacturing and space optics production in the US, its chief executive told ET.
This facility in Colorado will play a critical role in supporting the intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance needs in the US, Anirudh Sharma said. In recognition of this, the State of Colorado has pledged close to $1 million in operational incentives to accelerate Digantara’s expansion into the US.
Colorado governor Jared Polis announced the company’s plans in the state early on Tuesday. The announcement came ahead of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the US and is seen as an example of increasing defence cooperation between the two countries.
The company’s expansion in the US comes as a direct outcome of the Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology and the INDUS-X framework agreed upon by India and the US for cooperation on critical and emerging technologies as well as defence innovation.
“As space threats evolve, so must our investments in resilient technologies, positioning us to support mission-critical defence and intelligence operations,” said Sharma.
