Elizabeth Holmes, the founder of Theranos, has spoken about her life behind bars for the first time since beginning her sentence for conspiracy and fraud.
Describing her time at Federal Prison Camp Bryan in Texas as “hell and torture,” the 41-year-old stated that she remains committed to maintaining her innocence while focusing on self-improvement.
Holmes follows a strict routine, waking up at five in the morning and exercising for 40 minutes, including jogging, weightlifting and rowing, according to a report US Magazine. Her sentence, originally 11 years, has been reduced to nine years for good behaviour. Holmes works as a re-entry clerk in the education building, earning 31 cents per hour.
The report also reveals that the former entrepreneur primarily follows a vegan diet but started eating salmon and tuna after developing anaemia. She uses her allotted 300 minutes of monthly phone time to call her family twice a day. Her family members, including her husband Billy Evans, frequently visit her on weekends.
