Abhishek Kar, a finfluencer who recently faced backlash for making derogatory remarks about Assam's history and traditions on social media, has issued a public apology. The comments, made during a podcast, were met with severe criticism from the Assam government, prompting the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) to condemn Kar's statements on X (formerly Twitter). In response, Kar clarified that his intention was never to cause harm and promised to be more careful in the future when sharing information.
The tweet from CMO read, “A video from a YouTube channel ,named Riya Upreti, is in circulation where an individual named Abhishek Kar is seen making unacceptable comments on Assam's history and traditions. Appropriate action may be initiated against the said individual for spreading misinformation. @assampolice”
Kar, who describes himself as a «trader, investor, and mentor» on his YouTube channel, had earlier posted a video spreading misinformation about a village in Assam, claiming that women there had the ability to turn people into goats and back to humans through tantric practices. His remarks triggered an FIR, and a senior police officer confirmed that an investigation into the matter had been initiated.
In his apology posted on X, Kar expressed regret for his comments, explaining that he would be more diligent in verifying information before sharing it going forward. He assured the public that he never meant to offend anyone and emphasized his commitment to improving the accuracy of his future content.
