“It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of my dear friend and colleague, Leslie Charleson. Her enduring legacy has spanned nearly 50 years on General Hospital alone and, just as Monica was the heart of the Quartermaines, Leslie was a beloved matriarch of the entire cast and crew,” Valentini shared on January 12, 2025, in a statement on X (formerly Twitter).
He continued, “I will miss our daily chats, her quick wit and incredible presence on set. On behalf of everyone at General Hospital, my heartfelt sympathy goes out to her loved ones during this difficult time.”
Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Leslie Charleson’s career began in the 1960s. She first appeared on television as a regular on the ABC daytime series A Time for Us. Following this, she joined the cast of As the World Turns before moving to the CBS soap opera Love Is a Many Splendored Thing, where she earned her first Daytime Emmy nomination for her role as Iris Donelly Garrison.
