CDC) has confirmed a new strain of bird flu in a Nevada resident, marking a significant development in the ongoing avian influenza outbreak.
On February 10, the Central Nevada Health District (CNHD) reported that a dairy worker in Churchill County tested positive for highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) after being exposed to infected dairy cattle.
Health officials described the individual’s symptoms as moderate, noting that hospitalisation was not required and that they have since made a full recovery, according to People.
According to the report, the infected worker was diagnosed with the D1.1 strain of bird flu, which differs from the B3.13 strain responsible for most human infections in the United States.
The new strain was first identified in Nevada cattle on January 32 after the virus was detected in milk samples collected for monitoring in December 2024.
