Pentagon has released a fresh report on Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAPs), commonly referred to as UFOs. While it details hundreds of new incidents, the report does not provide any proof of extraterrestrial origins. Compiled by the Pentagon’s All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO), the review examines cases involving objects ranging from misidentified balloons and drones to more mysterious sightings. One notable case involved a near-miss between a commercial aeroplane and an unidentified object off New York’s coast.
The Pentagon’s focus on UAPs is centred on addressing potential threats to national security and air safety, not science fiction. AARO was established in 2022 to investigate such cases, following calls from US lawmakers to dig deeper into the issue and make findings public.
“There is something out there,” said Republican Representative Andy Ogles from Tennessee, as per the Associated Press. “The question is: Is it ours, is it someone else's, or is it otherworldly?”
The report covered 757 cases reported to US authorities between May 1, 2023, and June 1, 2024. It also included 272 older cases that were previously unreported.
Most reported cases occurred in airspace, with 49 taking place at altitudes of at least 100 kilometres (62 miles), which is considered outer space. No underwater incidents were reported. Witnesses included commercial and military pilots, as well as ground
