The debate follows President Joe Biden's decision to withdraw from the election on July 21 and his endorsement of Vice President Harris. Biden's move came after internal criticism within his party concerning his capacity for another term, notably after an uneven debate performance against Trump in June.
ABC News will host the 90-minute debate, and it will be moderated by «World News Tonight» anchor David Muir and ABC News Live «Prime» anchor Linsey Davis.
New debate rules include live microphones only for the candidate whose turn it is to speak, muting during the other’s allotted time. Only moderators are permitted to ask questions.
A virtual coin toss on Tuesday decided the order for closing statements and podium positions. Trump won the toss and opted to give the final closing statement, while Harris chose the right podium on stage left.
