450 industries moved to Punjab recently due to Bhagwant Mann govt's efforts: Arvind Kejriwal
Arvind Kejriwal on Friday said that 450 industries from other states have shifted their operations to Punjab during the last few months and lauded Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for his efforts. Kejriwal, also Delhi's chief minister, said Punjab is witnessing a «reverse trend» as Mann built an industry-friendly atmosphere coupled with a good law and order situation in the state. Interacting with entrepreneurs during a townhall meeting, Kejriwal said that this was contrary to the trend earlier when there was an «exodus» of industry from Punjab. The AAP national convener, who is on the last day of his three-day visit to Punjab on Wednesday, said that this was due to Mann's desire to make Punjab among the best in every sphere. Kejriwal said previous governments used to see industrialists with an eye of suspicion and always think about using them, but the present government considers them «as our partners». Bhagwant Mann has restored the faith of industrialists by providing them an industry-friendly atmosphere coupled with a good law and order situation, the AAP convener said, adding that big industrial tycoons are making huge investments in the state. Kejriwal batted for constituting sector-specific task forces, comprising of representatives of the industry and state government officers, to give fillip to growth of these sectors. Speaking at the event, Mann announced an exemption for the industry in Ludhiana giving them three years time to shift out from residential areas.

Debunking the notion: Why engineering studies in India are far from dead
Here’s a quick question: What is common to former German chancellor Angela Merkel, British comedian Rowan ‘Mr Bean’ Atkinson, former president of India APJ Abdul Kalam, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, supermodel Cindy Crawford, first man on the moon Neil Armstrong, India’s richest businessman Mukesh Ambani, Delhi's chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, Bollywood heartthrob Vicky Kaushal, and Bloomberg founder and CEO and three-time New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg? The answer: They are all engineers. This eclectic list serves as a counter-narrative, challenging the notion that engineering no longer opens doors to opportunity, particularly in India.

Existing rules on mandatory insurance cover, helmets on 2-wheelers applicable to electric vehicles: HC
Delhi High Court Thursday said existing rules on mandatory insurance cover, wearing of headgear on two-wheelers and penal action for non-compliance are already applicable to electric vehicles. The high court directed the Delhi government to continue ensuring that the subsidy offered by the government for electric vehicles registered in the national capital is being disbursed in a timely manner. The high court's order came while dismissing a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking directions to the authorities to make insurance cover compulsory for electric two-wheelers in accordance with the provisions of the Motor Vehicle Act. The PIL also sought the court's direction to the authorities for mandatory wearing of helmet on all types of electric motorcycles and scooters.

SpiceJet questions the maintainability of insolvency petitions by aircraft lessors Wilmington and Celestial
Spicejet, on Thursday, argued that the insolvency petition filed by aircraft lessor Wilmington Trust SP Services (Dublin) Limited was not maintainable, questioning the company’s locus standi to file an insolvency petition. In another case listed before the National Company Law Tribunal, Spicejet argued that the insolvency petition filed under Section 10 of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016, by Celestial Aviation Services Ltd, wasn’t maintainable either. The low-cost airline informed the National Company Law Tribunal that the owner in Wilmington’s case was not the company that had filed the petition but BOC Aviation Ltd, which had transferred it to Aircaste (Ireland) Ltd and, thus, the petitioner could not be the operational creditor. “He’s not the owner of the aircraft, so in what capacity does he become the operational creditor,” senior counsel representing Spicejet stated. “Trustee is only entrusted with the property and cannot become the owner of the property,” he further said, referring to the invoices, where the account was also in Aircastle (Ireland) Ltd’s, earlier referred to as Klaatu Aircraft Leasing (Ireland) Limited, name.
