This was laid down by a three-judge bench of the Delhi High Court in a ruling which would impact several MNCs using liaison office, subsidiary, or a fixed place like a hotel room — arrangements which are considered as 'permanent establishment' or PEs in tax parlance — to meet customers, negotiate prices, and market products and services. The ruling, pronounced on September 19, was in response to a petition by the UAE-based Hyatt International Southwest Asia which had a fixed place or PE in India at the premises of Hyatt Regency hotel in Delhi.

Some opposition members also wondered whether the Sufi Shah Malang sect comprising fakirs, who appeared before the Committee, formed part of the Muslim community.

India's position in the global financial ecosystem and is committed to advancing digital payment solutions that are secure, scalable, and inclusive, the finance ministry said in a statement on Friday. «India is rapidly emerging as a global leader in digital payments. With UPI’s global expansion and the continued rise of digital transactions, India is setting new benchmarks for financial inclusion and economic empowerment of common citizens,» it said, noting that as per the ACI Worldwide Report 2024, in 2023 around 49% of the global real-time payment transactions are happening in India. In its statement the ministry noted that digital payments transactions volume reached to 8,659 crore for the last five months (April-August) of FY25, the finance ministry said in a statement adding that in the last six years, transaction volume increased at a 44% compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) from 2,071 crore in FY18 to 18,737 crore in FY 24.

Bangladesh is urgently seeking $5 billion in financial aid from international lenders to stabilise its dwindling foreign exchange reserves and its central bank has raised key interest rates to tame soaring inflation. Last year, it sought a $4.7 billion bailout from the International Monetary Fund.

Five international lenders participated in the initial financing — BNP Paribas, DBS Bank, Mizuho Bank, MUFG Bank, and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation.

Adani Total Gas Ltd (ATGL), the equal joint venture between Adani Group and French energy major Total Energies, has raised Rs 3131 crore ($375 million) from BNP Paribas, DBS Bank, Mizuho Bank, MUFG Bank, and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, the company said on Friday. The facility will fast-track the capital expenditure program enabling ATGL to rapidly expand its city gas distribution network into its 34 authorized Geographical Areas (GAs) across 13 states, the company said in a regulatory filing, adding that this development agenda shall cater to up to 14% of India’s population covering more than 200 million people. «The maiden financing of $375 million executed with international lenders includes an initial commitment of $315 million with an accordion feature to enhance the commitments,» ATGL said in a press statement.
