Centre should stop stepmotherly treatment towards Delhi, give city its due in Budget: Atishi
Atishi on Friday demanded Rs 10,000 crore from the Centre for infrastructure development, claiming the city government got nothing in return over the past year despite its income tax contribution of Rs 2 lakh crore. Delhi also provided Rs 25,000 crore as central GST to the pool of taxes, the minister said during a press conference here. Ahead of the presentation of the Centre's annual budget, Atishi batted for release of more money to Delhi, saying it could be spent on infrastructure development in road, transport and power sectors as well as to beautify the city. Asserting that people of Delhi are the highest income tax payers, the minister said, «Delhi should get Rs 10,000 crore from the Rs 2.07 lakh crores that people of the city pay as income tax. This amount of Rs 10,000 crore is just 0.25 per cent of the Central government's budget and only 5 per cent of the income tax of Delhiites.»

Budget 2024: Will Sitharaman give a higher dose of allocation for healthcare this time around?
Union Budget 2024: India, under PM Narendra Modi’s tenure, has seen a steady increase in healthcare allocation and spending. Even before the Covid-19 pandemic shut down the world, the government had highlighted healthcare as a priority sector. The allocation for health in the recently presented Interim Budget for 2024-25 was especially crucial as India approached the 2025 deadline set by the National Health Policy (NHP) 2017 to increase health expenditure to 2.5% of GDP.

Four operating rooms, a maternity ward and a dialysis center are among the facilities the hospital has set up three levels down in its underground parking garage, part of its plan to keep functioning if the daily tit for tat exchange of fire between Israel and the U.S.-designated terror group across the border with Lebanon escalates.

The India-Russia relationship is less than meets the eye
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s high-profile visit to Moscow last week set off a firestorm of criticism in the West. But if you look beyond the hyperbole used to describe India-Russia relations, it becomes obvious that there’s less to the connection than meets the eye. As a weakened Russia grows more dependent on China, India has no choice but to draw closer to the U.S.

Court asks surgeon to pay Rs 12 lakh compensation to patient for botched Hernia surgery in Tamil Nadu
Rasipuram has been ordered by the Namakkal district consumer disputes redressal commission (NCDRC) to compensate a patient with Rs 12 lakh within four weeks for a botched hernia surgery. This ruling was made on Tuesday regarding a case filed by M Raja, a 52-year-old resident of Rasipuram, detailing the negligence he faced during a surgery conducted in August 2021 by Dr. Ramesh at a private hospital in Rasipuram. In August 2021, M Raja consulted Dr. Ramesh at a private hospital after being diagnosed with a hernia. Dr. Ramesh recommended immediate surgery, which was estimated to cost Rs 60,000. However, complications arose during the surgery due to a shortage of carbon dioxide gas necessary for the procedure, causing it to be halted midway. When the required gas was acquired, the surgery resumed, but complications persisted as Raja regained consciousness due to the waning effect of anesthesia during the delay. «I felt great pain during the surgery but the nurses pinned me down to complete the surgery even though I asked them to stop,» Raja recounted.
