Trump has put an end to an era. The future is up for grabs.
Kamala Harris lost the presidential election, but one of her campaign slogans was vindicated in defeat. «We're not going back!» the Democratic nominee insisted on the campaign trail, and she was unintentionally correct: Donald Trump's return to power is proof that we have lived through a real turning point in history, an irrevocable shift from one era to the next. In Trump's first term, he did not look like a historically transformative president. His victory was narrow. He lacked real majority support. He was swiftly unpopular and stymied and harassed. Even if his 2016 upset proved that discontent with the official consensus of the Western world ran unexpectedly deep, the way he governed made it easy to regard his presidency as accidental and aberrant — a break from a «normal» world of politics that some set of authority figures could successfully reimpose.

One of the great cons of century? Fans angry as many say Jake Paul could have knocked Mike Tyson out in 4 rounds, did he carry the 58-year-old boxer through the fight?
Netflix bout ended in a one-sided defeat for the legendary boxer in front of a sold-out crowd at AT&T Stadium in Arlington in Texas. Paul beat boxing legend Mike Tyson by unanimous decision to win the intergenerational heavyweight battle that failed to live up to its enormous hype. Now frustrated fans have alleged that Paul could have won the bout much earlier but deliberately kept on fighting Tyson for eight rounds. Some fans have claimed that Paul didn't want to knock Tyson out. Tyson barely landed a punch during the eight-round bout, with Paul winning by big margins on all three cards — 80-72, 79-73 and 79-73.

Kapil Sharma show: Comedian calls his mother a heroine, reflects on life after father’s death
Kapil Sharma recently opened up about the profound impact his mother's resilience has had on his life following the loss of his father. Speaking on Zakir Khan's podcast, the comedian and actor delved into the emotional challenges his family faced and praised his mother as the «heroine» of their story for holding the family together during incredibly trying times. Kapil recounted how his mother managed to navigate life in police quarters while raising three children after his father passed away. Kapil shared that he often wondered about how she managed everything with three kids. He reflected on her unwavering strength and ability to handle difficult circumstances. At just 22 years old, Kapil and his elder brother were thrust into a world of responsibilities and hardships, but it was their mother’s determination that kept the family united. He also recalled the particularly tough period when they were forced to vacate their home for six months. Despite the adversities, his mother remained steadfast. Kapil added that his respect for her only grows when he thinks about how she carried them through those times.

Threat is in the air
It was not just Uikey, though. Between May and November so far, India received about 900 threatening messages, including 600 posted on X, according to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which is in charge of security at commercial airports. These threats were all directed at airlines. Sources in the industry say in the past two months alone, over 1,000 flights—domestic and foreign— were delayed due to threatening calls, texts and social media posts that turned out to be fake. The losses that the airlines ran up due to this during the period could amount to about Rs 500 crore.

Great Goaing: Goa is struggling to cope with the aftereffects of overtourism, but you cannot write it off
Goa are particularly prone to a kind of reporting. Journalists or social media influencers come on a holiday. They hang out in a resort, go out to a few restaurants, shop in a few places, meet a local friend and speak to their taxi drivers. Then they string together their peeves or “new” discoveries, and a tourism trends story is born. Have to justify the time off, right? Some of the disgruntled posts that triggered the recent spat over the apparently declining state of tourism in Goa are right out of this playbook, with added moralism. “The problem with Goa is that it became rich without much effort,” declared a particularly pompous post. Tourists complaining about tourism-linked problems show a profound lack of self-reflection. Meanwhile, comparing a small state in India with countries like Sri Lanka and Thailand will yield inaccurate perspectives. Nothing is helped, though, by the reliably wrong-headed responses of the Goa government. LOOK CLOSER The data doesn’t show Goa being “down in the dumps”, as a social media post alleged. According to Noesis, a leading hotel investment and advisory firm, Goa’s tourism is gearing up for a landmark year in 2024, building on the momentum of a strong 2023 recovery. Domestic arrivals are projected to top 8.5 million, while foreign visitors may touch pre-pandemic levels, potentially exceeding 500,000.

UP hospital fire: four-member probe team formed; govt dismisses claims of expired fire extinguishers, electrical short circuit suspected
Uttar Pradesh government on Saturday formed a four-member committee to probe into the fire at the children's ward of a medical college in Jhansi that snuffed out the lives of 10 newborns as officials suspect electrical short circuit to be the cause of the tragic incident. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has already directed the Divisional Commissioner of Jhansi, the fire department and the deputy inspector general of police to submit a report on the incident within 12 hours. Amid claims that the medical college had expired fire extinguishers, Deputy Chief Minister Brijesh Pathak asserted all firefighting equipment in the college was completely fine and a fire safety audit was carried out in February and a mock drill in June. Principal of the medical college, Dr Narendra Singh Sengar, also termed the allegations «baseless».

Maharashtra polls: Priyanka invokes Bal Thackeray, Shivaji Maharaj's 'insult' to target Modi
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Saturday invoked Bal Thackeray while campaigning for the Maharashtra assembly polls, stating the Shiv Sena founder wouldn't have tolerated Shivaji Maharaj's insult. Priyanka's rare reference to Thackeray, whose aggressive Hindutva was rejected by previous Congress generational leaders, comes at a time when PM Narendra Modi has dared the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) to ensure Rahul Gandhi speaks a few words of praise for Bal Thackeray and V D Savarkar. Priyanka accused the BJP of back-stabbing Uddhav Thackeray, an obvious reference to the toppling of the MVA government in 2022. «Modi always takes the name of Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray. Yes, our ideologies (Congress's and Shiv Sena's) were different...Yes, our political thinking was different… But neither Balasaheb Thackeray nor any leader from the Congress and Rahul ji (Gandhi) would tolerate Shivaji Maharaj's insult,» Priyanka stated while addressing poll rallies in Shirdi and Kolhapur.
