Joe Biden's student debt relief agenda is taking a series of setbacks. A year-long reprieve for borrowers lapsed and a program to assist those in default ended. Adding insult to injury, a federal judge recently blocked Biden's Plan B for broader student loan forgiveness, leaving the uncertainty of millions of borrowers. While there has been some temporary relief through smaller programs like «borrower defense,» legal battles still prevent more significant changes, as per a report.
Soon after the Supreme Court vetoed Biden's first plan, the «SAVE» plan was soon introduced as promising great relief to debtors. However, Republican-led challenges through a lawsuit put a stop to the plan, leaving many debtors in suspense. SAVE, which has already certified billions for half a million Americans to get relief from debt, is embroiled in a legal battle that is going to delay its operation. For Biden's camp, they would like to begin by 2024; however, things are not in the clear, USA Today reported.

Republican politicians, most recently the Trump campaign, have dismissed what Biden has done as nakedly political posturing that would inevitably collapse. Suing to overturn Biden's programs creates political opportunities for opponents to exploit the administration's inability to produce a cure-all for borrowers.
