Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, has come under scrutiny following the horrific rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor inside the hospital premises.
Ghosh resigned on August 12, just three days after the incident, and has since appeared before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) multiple times due to alleged connections to the case. This has sparked questions about his professional qualifications and career trajectory.
Dr. Sandip Ghosh, hailing from Bangaon, West Bengal, completed his higher secondary education at Bongaon High School in 1989. He pursued a career in medicine and graduated from RG Kar Medical College in 1994 with a medical degree.
Ghosh rose to prominence when he was appointed principal of RG Kar Medical College in 2021, marking a return to his alma mater. Prior to this role, Ghosh served as vice-principal at Calcutta National Medical College. Despite his background as an orthopaedics professor and surgeon, he struggled to establish a strong reputation in the field. His tenure at RG Kar Medical College was marked by controversy, highlighting professional irregularities.
In June 2023, Ghosh faced allegations of corruption.
