Reports from Redanian Intelligence suggest that the narrative of The Rats might not unfold as an independent series but could instead be featured within the fourth season of the popular Netflix fantasy saga.
Initial Announcement and Concept
Netflix announced The Rats spin-off a couple of years ago, describing it as a detailed exploration of six teenage thieves' lives before encountering Ciri in Season 3 of The Witcher. The official plot summary read: “Six teenage thieves must rely on their criminal skills as they plan the biggest heist of their careers against the most dangerous crime ring in the kingdom”, as per a report by Movieweb.
Despite the initial enthusiasm, Netflix hesitated to fully greenlight the project. The production proceeded under the direction of Witcher writer Haily Hall for two months, but it appears the streaming giant ultimately decided against developing The Rats into a standalone series.
Special Episode Integration
The latest buzz suggests that the footage shot for The Rats, which was initially intended as a pilot for the spin-off, will now be incorporated as a special episode in The Witcher Season 4. This episode, titled «The Rats: A Witcher Tale,» might air between two parts of the upcoming season or be released separately before the season premiere in 2025, as per a report by Movieweb.
