Riots erupt in Nagpur after VHP rally, rumours of holy book burning
Locals speculated that rumors of the Quran being burned during the protests triggered the violence, which eventually turned into a full-scale riot. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, in a video statement, urged the public not to believe the rumors and to restore peace, emphasizing Nagpur's longstanding reputation for calm. While the police contained one group, the other continued to attack officers and vandalize vehicles, forcing authorities to fire tear gas shells.

Maharashtra violence: Clashes erupt, vehicles set ablaze, police injured over reports of burning of holy book
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Archit Chandak, the violence started due to some miscommunication. “The situation is under control now. We have a strong police presence. We appeal to everyone to stay calm and not engage in stone pelting,” he told ANI. To control the situation, the police used tear gas and displayed a show of force. Several vehicles were set on fire, but the Fire Brigade quickly doused the flames. DCP Chandak himself suffered a minor leg injury during the violence. Authorities have urged people not to believe in rumours and to maintain law and order. “We request everyone to support the police. Legal action is being taken against those involved,” DCP Chandak said.

Last men standing: How mutual fund investors are holding the line against ruthless FIIs
foreign institutional investors (FIIs), who have been unloading Indian equities at an alarming pace. Since the market peaked in September 2024, FIIs have pulled out a staggering Rs 2.13 lakh crore, testing the resilience of India's stock market. Yet, domestic mutual fund investors have fought back, pouring in nearly Rs 1.88 lakh crore between October and February—emerging as the last line of defence against the selloff. In February 2025, even as volatility rattled the markets, mutual fund inflows remained positive for the 48th consecutive month, coming in at Rs 29,303 crore. While this marked a 26% decline from January, it highlighted the unwavering commitment of domestic investors, who have kept faith in Indian equities despite global headwinds. Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) contributions remained strong at Rs 25,999 crore—surpassing the September figure of Rs 24,509 crore and underscoring the growing financial discipline of retail investors.

Marcellus Investment Managers, its founder Saurabh Mukherjea encouraged market participants to direct as much criticism as possible. The fund's marquee consistent compounders portfolio has delivered a return CAGR of 17.4% over FY19-24, which is broadly in-line with the portfolio' EPS CAGR of 17.8% in the same period. Marcellus acknowledged that the portfolio performance (pre-fees) should have exceeded the EPS CAGR by a reasonable margin and they have fallen short in this regard.

Musk's dressing down: For Trump, suits mean success, so why does his most empowered deputy dress like an intern?
Donald Trump's press secretary Karoline Leavitt was asked a seemingly simple question about the White House dress code. A reporter pointed out that administration officials were «miffed» that the Ukrainian leader, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, had not worn a suit to the Oval Office. And yet, the reporter said, "Elon Musk never wears a suit in there. So what is the dress code?" As with all things in Washington, this was really a question about power. Musk flexes his by dressing down where all others must dress up. He wears his «tech support» T-shirt around town and to meetings with the president. So when the tech mogul wore a suit and tie twice last week, just like any other working stiff in Washington, it seemed like a sign that maybe some of the old rules of this place — and the ones about fashion and etiquette are among the oldest — were suddenly being applied to this most special of government employees.

Is LIC stock undervalued? Kotak Equities suggests buying with Rs 1,175 target
Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) looks inexpensive, domestic brokerage firm Kotak Institutional Equities has maintained a ‘buy’ call on the stock, revising its target down to Rs 1,175 from an earlier Rs 1,250, to reflect a lower investment return following the recent correction in equities. “The correction in equities and a severe slowdown in business, following the surrender value guidelines, continue to weigh on the prospects of LIC. Trends in (equity) markets have high sensitivity and drive over 50% of its EV. The slowdown in APE and management’s stance on dealing with the same are monitorable. Inexpensive valuations support our BUY rating,” said the domestic brokerage firm.
