The changes proposed include revamping the khadi supply and delivery ecosystem, focussing on their digitalisation and helping market khadi as a low-carbon footprint clothing.
«The KVIC amendments under consideration focus on marketability, promoting exports and popularising khadi with the youth. These changes in the act will make khadi products in sync with the current trends, including sustainability in fashion» said an official.
These amendments will also ensure a steady stream of the latest fashionable khadi products and a wider range in the market.«Presently, we don't have sustained production of khadi products, leading to empty shelves in khadi outlets which create a poor shopping experience for consumers and weaken the khadi brand,» said an official.
KVIC, the nodal body associated with making key decisions related to khadi policy, has signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the National Institute of Fashion Technology to leverage the institution's expertise in fashion for a better understanding of the market trends and launching products tailored to the taste and preferences of youth.
