Topping the list is the short flight between Mendoza, Argentina, and Santiago, Chile. This 196-kilometer route crosses the Andes, one of the world’s most rugged mountain ranges. The towering peaks and the region’s weather patterns contribute to frequent turbulence. The average turbulence level for this route is 24.684, which places it at the top of the turbulence scale.
«Flying over the Andes, especially between Mendoza and Santiago, can feel like riding a roller coaster. The combination of high altitudes and unpredictable winds causes significant bumpy conditions,» says a seasoned pilot familiar with the route.
The flight from Cordoba to Santiago, spanning 660 kilometers, is another turbulent journey. Much like the Mendoza-Santiago route, this flight also flies over the Andes, which are notorious for creating turbulent air conditions. The turbulence levels here are slightly lower, with an average of 20.214 edr, but it still ranks as one of the most turbulent routes globally.
