G20 role in climate finance critical: UN body chief
UN climate chief Simon Stiell on Saturday urged them to send a strong signal that climate action is core business for the world's biggest economies and step up climate finance globally as it requires action both inside and outside the COP process. His remarks come as negotiators here continue to brainstorm on finalising post-2025 climate finance goals without making much headway on the latest iteration of the draft decision text during multiple negotiations at CO. It is believed that the leaders' declaration by G20 leaders at Rio may give a push to the ongoing negotiation here. «Here in Baku negotiators are working around the clock on a new climate finance goal. There is a long way to go, but everyone is very aware of the stakes, at the halfway point in the COP. Climate finance progress outside of our process is equally crucial, and the G20's role is mission-critical,» said Stiell.

How companies are enhancing delivery partners' wellbeing through upskilling, education, & life quality initiatives
Swiggy listed on the bourses earlier this week, two of its delivery partners—Jigar Khan and Namrata Vora—joined cofounders Sriharsha Majety and Nandan Reddy in ringing the ceremonial bell at the National Stock Exchange (NSE). The symbolic gesture was aimed at celebrating the hard work of its delivery partners, the Bengaluru-based food delivery firm said in a statement. Other companies, too, are recognising the contribution of delivery partners and are rolling out a slew of initiatives to help them with upskilling and further education, and achieving an overall better quality of life, according to industry executives. Zomato, Zepto, Delhivery, bigbasket and Blue Dart Express are among those that are offering reimbursement for education-related expenses, soft skills training in communication and other basic competencies, financial literacy programmes and career progression initiatives. Zomato has collaborated with the Hospitality Training Institute of India, and 5,200 delivery partners across 10 cities have been trained in hospitality and service excellence. “This training equips them with essential skills in customer interaction, professionalism and service, enhancing the experience for both customers and delivery partners,” said Rakesh Ranjan, CEO of food delivery at Zomato. This year, Swiggy launched Swiggy Skills in collaboration with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.

Threat is in the air
It was not just Uikey, though. Between May and November so far, India received about 900 threatening messages, including 600 posted on X, according to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which is in charge of security at commercial airports. These threats were all directed at airlines. Sources in the industry say in the past two months alone, over 1,000 flights—domestic and foreign— were delayed due to threatening calls, texts and social media posts that turned out to be fake. The losses that the airlines ran up due to this during the period could amount to about Rs 500 crore.

Frankfurtive glances from the very heart of global book trade
book fair in the world. No one quite knows for sure, but some claim the fair began as early as in 1462, shortly after Johannes Gutenberg had printed the world's first book with movable metal type. We do know for certain though that at the beginning of the 17th c, a certain Herr Kepler was trying to sell his Rudolphinische Tabellen (Rudolphine Tables) at the fair, while Herr Galileo was publishing a monstrous advertisement for his Sidereus Nuncius (Starry Messenger). This year, Herr Dylan was in Frankfurt during the Buchmesse. He was puzzled at the preponderance of publishers in his hotel. 'At the hotel in Frankfurt there was a publishing convention and every room was taken, parties all night. I didn't know there were so many book publishers in the world. I was trying to find Crystal Lake Publishing… I thought they might be interested in some of my stories. Unfortunately, it was too crowded and I never did find them,' he posted on X.

Songs that launch a thousand memes
bad music. The Subcontinent has become a master at creating bad musical masterpieces that confound as often as they delight. A key element of this music is that it isn’t satirical—it’s earnestly made from the hearts of the artists. Most people can’t see the fine line where satire ends and earnestly made music begins and that’s the true beauty of bad music. A more politically correct term may be “meme music”, since these songs often give rise to thousands of memes. From Taher Shah’s “Eye to Eye” and Chahat Fateh Ali Khan’s “Bado Badi” (though the jury’s out on whether his music is that earnestly made) to Dhinchak Pooja’s “Selfie Maine Leli Aaj” and Vennu Mallesh’s “It’s My Life What Ever I Wanna Do”, you name it and the Subcontinent has got it.
