The Democrats and the Republicans are all set to contesting the upcoming Presidential Election in 2024. While Donald Trump has been nominated as the official presidential nominee of the Republicans, it is still not clear who will be nominated by the Democrats. Let us look at some of the scenarios.
If a candidate dies before receiving the presidential nomination and before the national convention:
Generally, candidates are selected during the primaries. During the National Convention, the delegates supporting a particular candidate come and vote for that specific candidate. Hence, there is no confusion here. It is just a matter of confirmation. Now, when a candidate dies before the national convention, the delegates supporting him are released. What does this mean?
It simply means that the other candidates will have to fight it out to secure a nomination. This is a matter within the party.
If a presidential nominee dies between the National Convention and the Election Day:
Thera are two scenarios here. Firstly, a nominee dies before the ballot paper is printed and secondly a nominee dies after the ballot paper is published.
